Mold Inspection

Mold is abundant in many
areas of Southwest Florida. Mold can be found in kitchens,
bathrooms, laundry rooms, the underside of carpets and pads, front and back
side of drywall, wallpaper or paneling, inside the HVAC system and duct
work, attics, under roof eaves and even clinging to trees around
Southwest Florida homes. When the four essentials for mold growth are
present, as they often are here in Southwest Florida, mold can form
on a wide variety of surfaces. In order for mold to grow, there must be
available mold spores, mold food, warm temperatures, and moisture.
Florida mold gives off a number of odors, but it most often smells like
damp, musty woods.
Indoor Air
Quality and Mold
You may have heard or read lately that air pollution indoors
can be a much greater risk than outdoor pollution. One factor that makes
indoor air quality so important is that the majority of people spend up
to 90% of their time indoors. Think of it. You can be in the presence of
both chemical and biological pollutants almost all of your life!
Mold is one of the biological pollutants that is a living
organism. Damp conditions, absolutely necessary for the growth of mold,
occur in the majority of homes, especially homes in areas where the
climate itself is moist. Mold can enter a home or business in the air, on
clothes, or on a person's skin. Tiny mold spores that molds produce in
their reproductive process sometimes land on damp spots in buildings.
When this happens, an environment is created in which they can begin to
grow.
Health Problems
Mold has the potential to cause health problems and even
make a home inhabitable. However, everyone is affected differently
when in contact with mold. The mold that may not bother the seller
may severely affect the buyer. Some mold can produce allergens,
irritants and, in some cases, potentially toxic chemical substances known
as mycotoxins. People who are sensitive and exposed to mycotoxins
can become ill. Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can
be immediate or delayed. People diagnosed with allergies and asthma
may be very sensitive to mold. Mold can cause asthma
attacks. Others at risk may include: infants, children, the elderly,
immune compromised patients, pregnant women and individuals with existing
respiratory conditions.

Deals DO NOT Need to Be Broken
If the home you were thinking about purchasing has mold, DO
NOT PANIC!
You can remove unusual mold levels from the home, and bring
it back to the original condition. If there is mold growth in your
home, you must clean the mold and fix the water problem. If you
clean the mold but do not fix the water problem, the mold will grow
back. If the contaminated area involved is very large, you may wish
to consider hiring a professional mold remediation company.
